SISTER SCHOOL BENEFITS PACKAGE

Zake Morgan, San Dieguito's fundraising director, on why his sister school program matters

As you are browsing through this webpage, I am sure you're wondering why a bunch of high school students decided to get together and try and help out with this organization. The incentive was rather obvious at the beginning; it will look good on a college application, free help with college application and admission letters and community service. I am a little ashamed to say that that is how this began for me.

Even though I did enjoy helping people, I didn't really see it as a calling for me or something that I figured would change my life, but this summer going into my senior year of high school, along with my five other group members I have really learned to appreciate what this organization is doing. I couldn't be happier to be in this club. The magnitude of what we, a group of six teenagers growing up in suburban Southern California, can do to facilitate the growth of communities halfway across the world is incredible. With the aid and collaboration of our sister school program and Leadership Initiatives we have been able to raise nearly $1,800 dollars over our three month summer, which for us is rather unbelievable. We were able to explain this incredible organization to people just like you and immediately they began to grasp what we were doing. I believe that our fundraising turned out to be so successful because of the power that this project has ingrained within its deepest core, which is the ability to change the lives of thousands of people.

On top of the incredible amount of self-fulfillment that my colleagues and I have gained from this project, the opportunities that Leadership Initiatives has provided us with have proved to be invaluable. They have given us loads of help with letters of recommendation, helped us revise college essays, and even offered advice on college choices, which has been a huge advantage as I'm on the verge of making one of the most influential decisions of my life. Also, Leadership Initiatives has lent me a guiding hand in figuring out what it is I want to do with my life. Over all, the things I have learned from this experience and the people involved with it have given me more guidance and help than I would have ever imagined.
