CAROLYN BROWN
Assistant Professor
George Washington University

Dr. Carolyn A. Brown is an assistant professor of Educational Leadership and Policy at George Washington University. Dr. Brown has over 25 years experience working in public and private education and non-profit organizations. She has been a teacher, a school administrator, and a founder of a private school. She brings her expertise in curriculum development and leadership to her work with Leadership Initiatives.

Dr. Brown’s interest in Leadership Initiatives was sparked on her first meeting with the three directors. She was attracted to the mission of the organization and to the combination of passion and professionalism of the three directors. After teaching for a summer at Skopje University in Macedonia, Dr. Brown came to understand the power of university students in building institutions to improve the lives of their own people. She was delighted to find Leadership Initiatives, which has applied the remarkable talents of the three directors to building a program that harnesses the power of university students in developing countries.




LOUIS CLARK
President, Corporate Accountability Director and Development Director
Government Accountability Project (GAP)

Mr. Clark assumed the directorship of GAP in 1978, having first served as legal counsel for the organization. He received his J.D. from the American University in 1977, where he received two honorary fellowships for his work within the clinical program and in the area of prison reform. He is also a minister, with a Master of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. In 1992, Mr. Clark received the Gleitsman Award for his life-long commitment to initiating, promoting and implementing positive forms of social change.


REMI DUYILE
CEO of Premier Mortgage Solutions & Image Consulting Group

A native Nigerian, Remi Duyile combines her unique perspective and strong ties to local African civic groups with more than 20 years of financial expertise. She spent 17 years with Bank of America, climbing to Vice President in the Mortgage Division and Premier Banking before moving on to launch financial service ventures of her own. Having founded Premier Mortgage Solutions, the Image Consulting Group, and the Legacy Premier Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering disadvantaged communities, Remi brings key insight to the development of LI. She also serves as a leading member of African Business Owners' Forum Incorporated and as Vice President of the Association of African Brokers and Lenders, connecting LI to local Nigerian supporters.



T. HANS JANSEN
Independent Energy Consultant

Hans Jansen is an independent energy efficiency consultant and development coach who has spent most of his life in the tropics. Hans has worked over 30 years on energy technology projects and sustainable energy planning in developing nations. He specializes in institution building and developing the legal and corruption free financing structures for nation-wide energy efficiency and environmental protection programs. With local authorities, consultants, non-profit organizations and volunteers, he initiated, developed and co-managed the implementation of the national energy efficiency and renewable energy programs in Thailand and Vietnam, now operating independently from aid donors.

Hans Jansen is attracted to the grass-roots approach of the organization and the enthusiasm of the Leadership Initiative staff. He is convinced that he can assist the organization in developing into a strong permanent player in the international development arena, and teach them to swim with the sharks and excel with their development mission.

WILLIAM S. REESE
President and Chief Executive Officer
International Youth Foundation

Bill Reese brings more than thirty years of experience in the international development sector to Leadership Initiatives. A graduate of Stanford, and a Woodrow Wilson National Fellow, he has worked for the Peace Corps in such capacities as Director of Brazil operations and Deputy Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Region. Bill also served as President and CEO of Partners of the Americas, promoting international economic and social development for twelve years. Currently Bill has a seat on the Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid, and is serving as President and CEO of the International Youth Foundation, supporting positive youth development in more than 70 countries and territories.


 

KELLEY ROGERS

Kelley Rogers co-founded the firm Political Solutions after serving as the National Political Director for NFIB, the National Federation of Independent Business, the nation’s largest small business association where he helped build the political program. He has worked with Republican campaigns and grassroots associations for more than 20 years.

Washington, DC based Political Solutions’ practice is focused on Strategic Consulting, Government Affairs, Fundraising and Voter Contact Mail and Phones. SARAH STILES
Professor of Leadership
American University

Professor Stiles currently teaches "Social Entrepreneurship: Leading Social Change" in the Department of Sociology at Georgetown University. She is Executive Director of the CoRAL Network, a consortium of local universities in equal partnership with the nonprofits and the city government to direct the wealth of resources of the universities into our community. Stiles also directs DC Youth & Government, a program of the YMCA where college students go into participating high schools, teach civics, and lead a weekend youth simulation of DC government.

Sarah Stiles is a native Washingtonian, studied Spanish at Southern Methodist University, did a master's degree in Spanish literature at New York University in Madrid, completed a master's and PhD in political science at Boston University, and received a law degree from Northeastern University. Before teaching at Georgetown, Stiles was Director of the Leadership Program in the School of Public Affairs at American University.



JENNIFER S. ULLMAN
Associate Director
International Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs
Verizon Communications

Since April 2004, Jennifer S. Ullman is Associate Director for International Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs at Verizon Communications located in Washington, D.C. In this present position, Ullman supports Verizon's interests before U.S. and international regulatory authorities including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Ullman also supports work on complex international public policy and regulatory issues to develop effective and reasoned positions that promote the interests of Verizon before government and industry. She assists with advocacy work with key contacts in Washington, D.C. or elsewhere to promote positive outcomes for Verizon while avoiding adoption of burdensome and costly government regulation. She also works to ensure that Verizon's viewpoint is effectively communicated to key policy makers in Washington, D.C. or elsewhere. In addition, Ullman provides international public policy and regulatory support to Verizon affiliates and business units.

Given her international background and experience, Ms. Ullman was approached by Leadership Initiatives to serve on the Advisory Board. Ms. Ullman is supporting the organization's objectives and mission to take it to the next level, particularly, in the area of communications and outreach.
